In an attempt to define a policy in the ministry of national infrastructure regarding renewable energy for the next decade, the minister – Dr. Uzi Landau – called a conference with the market leaders, academic representatives and the government for a special discussion in order to learn the current points of view . The conference dealt with the acute issues in the industry: setting reasonable prices – economically and from the allocation point of view – that the market must take upon itself, in order to allow proper absorption of renewable plants in the energy production realm. How to offer proper incentives, intended to encourage utilization of Israeli technologies. Thus offering an opportunity for Israeli technologies to mature by enjoying local investment allowing them to grow and export. Additionally, continuing his plan to encourage investment in Israel’s periphery, the minister wished to understand how to implement the best incentive policy to assist implementations in areas of national preference.
The daily economic publication The Marker reports that according to the Ministry of National Infrastructure, by 2020 Israel will have to fund 10 billion NIS (1.87 million €) in incentives to generate 10% of the national consumption from renewable. The total investment in the industry by 2020 will be 40-60 billion NIS (7.5 million € - 11.24 million €) and will allow the production of 4000 megawatts from renewable energy The minister, Dr. Landau said at the end of the conference: “The green energy market in Israel is at a crossroad and in order to enable its expansion in the right directions for Israel, we gathered here the best of brains in order to hear their perspectives. I plan on heavily considering issue that arose today, and with those in mind, the ministry will formulate a policy that will lead the country in achieving the 2020 goals.”
