Lior Motilsky was appointed three months ago as the new CEO of Go Solar. We met him after three months in office, and with the end of the initial installations cap for a chat about the Israeli PV market Energy efficiency, about Go-Solar and about himself.
Mr. Motilsky, tell us about yourself and about Go-Solar.
I come from the aviation industry. I managed a company the specialized in producing aviation modules from compound materials, especially for the new Boeing 787, and another of other projects in the aviation industry. Throughout my career, environmental protection has always been a key concern of mine, in plants and projects I managed; I constantly promoted water treatment, proper treatment of wastes, implementing environmentally friendly substances and materials. When the proposal to join Go Solar was put in front of me, I saw it as a direct continuum – operating in an industry that ties Israel to the world, developing and promoting the Israeli industry – especially in a vital industry as the energy one, and taking action in progressing my personal green ideology and agenda. I see Go-Solar in the future as a company that offers green energy solutions such as PV systems and wind powered systems. Our line of solutions starts from small 4Kwp installations through to industrial 50Kwp and up to 5Mwp solar fields. Go-Solar is negotiating with a number of manufacturers around the world for new technologies in the industry and to expand our PV panel application.
Go-Solar has the knowledge, the capability and the human resources suited for such an endeavor with over three years individual experience in planning, installing and operating PV systems. Our company has happy clients that have reached us via previous clients. Most of our marketing is done from mouth to ear, without a media campaign, rather by references from clients – private and industrial, that we have collaborated with in the past, and thanks to our client focused and fair play that we pride ourselves with.
How do you perceive the Israeli market?
The Israeli market has been open for only six months and, in Israel, immediately dozens of PV “Specialists” surface. Despite the growth there is room to develop mechanisms (regulations) for the industry. At the moment, to my understanding, the Israeli Standards Institution is working on a PV standard, and there is a necessity for expertise and knowledge that cannot be downloaded from the internet for planning and installing. These organizations at times do not know how to handle arrays, constructions, do not have competent manpower, and their module and component quality is unknown. There are already rumors of setups that have crashed or haven’t made the possible capacity. This is due to mall installing, unprofessionalism and such. By rule of thumb, as this industry matures and with proper regulation the market will be left with a number of major players that will operate the market properly. There is need for regulation and proper management of quotas and reporting, so that a situation such as the one in mid December where the quotas where finished and the installers weren’t informed.
I hope that the Israeli market will know how fulfill the enormous potential that a sunny land such as ours is blessed with. This includes government offices and the Israeli Electric company that will intelligently navigate the momentum to expand the utilization of clean green energy and defer from implementing fossil fuel plants that seriously pollute the air, water, damage beaches that have been subjected to future plants and grid infrastructure that harms and mars the landscape.
Is there room for a comparison between the Hi- tech industry and the solar industry?
I mean we’re mixing apples and oranges. These are two different industries \
Finally, a little bit about Energy Efficiency and the smart grid?
In my opinion, there is room for the smart gird in Israel and the technical knowhow does exist. There is a real need to improve and to monitor the sources and the consumers to save energy. These types of systems compliment and complete one another, and we will get at the end of the process better utilization of our energy sources. Thus we will be able to reduce or at least not expand future need for fossil fuel or nuclear power plants.
About Go-Solar
Go-Solar is a privately owned subsidiary of Ronco Electric from California and 2 Israeli partners and is backed with over 18 years of experience installing power infrastructure and over 8 years of experience installing PV systems. Go-Solar is highly integrated in the both the private sector and industrial sector of the PV market with over 30 systems installed with a combined capacity of over and another 20 systems in various stages of planning and authorization and is committing itself to found a solar field in collaboration with infrastructure organizations and investors.
